Repair what can be saved. Rebuild what cannot.

Chimney masonry restored with a complete water strategy

Tuckpointing, brick replacement, partial rebuilds and full rebuilds designed around the actual depth of deterioration, not a surface-only patch.

Masonry failure usually starts with water, incompatible repairs or movement. A durable scope identifies how far the deterioration extends, matches repair materials to the existing chimney and corrects the crown, flashing or termination details that allowed the damage to progress.

System options

Masonry repair levels and finish options

The right approach depends on whether damage is isolated to mortar joints, individual units or the structural chimney mass.

01

Tuckpointing and repointing

Best forOpen, washed-out or deteriorated mortar joints

Unsound mortar is removed to a suitable depth, joints are cleaned and compatible mortar is installed and tooled. Smearing new mortar over weak joints is not treated as a complete repointing repair.

02

Selective brick replacement

Best forSpalled, cracked or deeply deteriorated individual bricks

Damaged units are removed and replaced while surrounding sound masonry is preserved. Brick size, color and texture are matched as closely as practical, with natural variation expected.

03

Partial chimney rebuild

Best forUpper courses damaged beyond reliable spot repair

The chimney is dismantled to stable masonry and rebuilt with new brick or block, reinforcement or flue repairs as required, then completed with a properly formed crown and termination details.

04

Full exterior rebuild

Best forWidespread movement, severe deterioration or failed construction

Reconstructs the affected chimney section under a written scope that addresses support, flue components, roof intersection, weather protection and finish selections.

05

Brick, block, stone or stucco finish

Best forMatching the home or selecting a new exterior appearance

Finish systems are evaluated for structure, weather exposure and compatibility. Stucco and veneer must be detailed so they do not simply conceal ongoing moisture damage.

What to look for

Signs the masonry needs more than cosmetic sealing

  • Brick faces are flaking, bulging or separating
  • Mortar joints are deep, loose or missing
  • The chimney leans or cracks follow a repeating pattern
  • White mineral deposits return after surface cleaning
  • Previous patches are loose or trapping moisture
What the scope can include

A complete written scope

  1. Sounding and visual review of accessible masonry
  2. Removal of loose material to a stable repair boundary
  3. Compatible brick, block, stone and mortar selections
  4. Crown, cap, flashing and waterproofing coordination
  5. Protection of nearby roofing, siding and landscaping
How the work moves

Our service process

  1. Document the extent and likely source of deterioration
  2. Define the repair boundary and finish selection
  3. Set access, debris control and property protection
  4. Repair or rebuild in sequenced lifts and details
  5. Complete water-shedding components and final inspection
From selection to final review

A clear project path, with expectations in writing.

01

Inspection & documentation

We inspect accessible conditions, take measurements and document the parts of the system that shape your repair or installation options.

02

System options & written scope

You receive practical material and system choices, a defined scope of work and clear exclusions where hidden conditions may exist.

03

Contract, deposit & scheduling

Once you select your system:

  • We sign a clear, written contract
  • A 30% deposit is collected
  • We schedule your project
04

Installation & progress documentation

05

Cleanup & final inspection

We clean the property thoroughly. Most exterior construction sites are approximately 90-99% clean the same day. For qualifying multi-day masonry and exterior projects, our next-day closeout can include:

  • A final inspection
  • An additional magnetic sweep
  • Final drone photos when conditions and location allow
  • A complete quality-control review

Exact payment milestones, closeout steps and return visits are stated in the written contract for the selected project.

Service questions

Details worth understanding.

Final specifications depend on the inspected conditions, appliance listing, selected manufacturer and applicable local requirements.

Can damaged bricks be coated instead of replaced?+

A coating may help sound masonry resist water, but it does not restore a brick that has lost its face or structural integrity. Failed units should be replaced before water protection is considered.

Will new brick match perfectly?+

We aim for the closest practical match in size, color and texture. Existing masonry changes with age and weather, so a completely invisible match cannot always be guaranteed.
