The termination must keep weather and animals out without restricting the flue. Cap height, screen area, attachment and corrosion resistance are matched to the flue and exposure. A top-sealing damper can also close an open fireplace flue at the top, reducing air loss when the fireplace is not in use.

System options

Cap, damper and material options

We measure the flue tile, crown and nearby terminations before selecting a standard or custom system.

01

Stainless single-flue cap

Best forIndividual clay tiles or listed liner terminations

A corrosion-resistant lid and screen secured to one flue. Mesh size and cap height are selected to balance animal protection, spark control and exhaust area.

02

Custom multi-flue cap

Best forProtecting the full crown and multiple flues

Fabricated to cover the chimney top with a removable screened lid. Available in stainless steel, copper and selected coated finishes with custom leg and mounting details.

03

Copper cap

Best forPremium visible chimney architecture

Offers long service life and a distinctive patina. Custom shapes, roof forms and decorative details can be considered without reducing required venting area.

04

Top-sealing fireplace damper

Best forOpen fireplaces with damaged or inefficient throat dampers

A gasketed assembly mounts at the top and operates from a cable in the firebox. It provides a weather-resistant seal when closed and opens fully before fireplace use.

05

Wind or draft-assist cap

Best forSelected wind-related downdraft conditions

Specialized caps may help when roof turbulence contributes to downdraft, but they do not correct an undersized flue, blocked air supply or other fundamental system defects.

What to look for

Reasons to replace or upgrade the termination

  • Rain, leaves or animal nesting reaches the flue
  • The cap is missing, loose, crushed or heavily rusted
  • Screening is clogged and restricting exhaust
  • The fireplace damper no longer closes or seals
  • Multiple flues need one coordinated protective cover
What the scope can include

A complete written scope

  1. Flue, crown and termination measurements
  2. Draft-area and clearance review
  3. Material, screen and mounting selection
  4. Custom fabrication when standard sizes do not fit
  5. Damper cable setup and operating demonstration when included
How the work moves

Our service process

  1. Inspect the existing termination and identify the flues served
  2. Select a standard or custom cap or damper system
  3. Confirm dimensions, metal and appearance
  4. Install with approved attachment and weather details
  5. Verify access, clearance and operation
From selection to final review

A clear project path, with expectations in writing.

01

Inspection & documentation

We inspect accessible conditions, take measurements and document the parts of the system that shape your repair or installation options.

02

System options & written scope

You receive practical material and system choices, a defined scope of work and clear exclusions where hidden conditions may exist.

03

Contract, deposit & scheduling

Once you select your system:

  • We sign a clear, written contract
  • A 30% deposit is collected
  • We schedule your project
04

Installation & progress documentation

We protect the work area, install the approved scope and document important conditions and completed details as the project moves forward.

05

Cleanup & final inspection

We clean the property thoroughly. Most exterior construction sites are approximately 90-99% clean the same day. For qualifying multi-day masonry and exterior projects, our next-day closeout can include:

  • A final inspection
  • An additional magnetic sweep
  • Final drone photos when conditions and location allow
  • A complete quality-control review

Exact payment milestones, closeout steps and return visits are stated in the written contract for the selected project.

Service questions

Details worth understanding.

Final specifications depend on the inspected conditions, appliance listing, selected manufacturer and applicable local requirements.

Will a chimney cap stop every draft problem?+

No. A cap can help with certain wind and weather conditions, but draft also depends on flue sizing, chimney height, house pressure, fuel, combustion air and appliance operation.

What is the advantage of a top-sealing damper?+

It seals at the top with a gasket, helping reduce rain entry and air leakage through an unused open fireplace flue. It must be opened fully before a fire is started.
